MONTHS POEM
JANUARY
Everyone's thrilled, 2018 is near!
Woah, it's January! Happy New Year!
FEBRUARY
During February, love is in the air.
Everyone you see, seems to be walking in a pair.
MARCH
School's out in March for Spring Break.
We'll be celebrating while swimming in the lake.
APRIL
In April, we receive lots of chocolate.
Just make sure you don't store them in your pocket.
MAY
I've been waiting and waiting for the month of May.
In just a few days, it'll be my birthday!
JUNE
Everyone loves June because school's out for good.
I would travel to Paris and Rome, if I could.
JULY
There goes the fireworks for Canada Day in July.
Hours of partying will end off with a slice of warm, sweet pie.
AUGUST
In August, farmers begin to gather the crops.
They deliver the veggies and we dice and chop.
SEPTEMBER
September has come around and school is back in session.
You learn and train yourself to have a future profession.
OCTOBER
October is truly a dentist's worst nightmare.
Kids gobble up large amounts of sweets without any care.
NOVEMBER
During November, stuff your face with delicious food and drinks!
Later, we'll write what we're thankful for with paper and ink.
DECEMBER
Gather around the fireplace and watch a Christmas movie!
December's the best time to greet Santa, the man who's always jolly!

Emily Carr
It would be an honour to meet Emily Carr herself. I did not attend the field trip so to meet her in person would be far better! She could show and educate me on her work and that would better enrich and engage in my brain. She influences many people, including myself, and what better than to meet your inspriation? Everyone has idols, therefore I would ask, "Who inspired you and your paintings?" Another reason why I would like to meet her is to ask the many questions I have. Who taught you the techniques you use? ; What advice do you have for people that may not "follow the rules?" I would ask how she achieved success and how she grew passionate for painting. Meeting such a successful and empowering woman like Emily Carr, would ultimately make up for my absence.
The Dancing Queen
Is this for real? I opened the door of an auditorium to watch the classic ballet piece, "Swan Lake". "Oh my gosh" is what came out of my very mouth when I saw an old friend from high school, front and centered, portraying the lead role! Let me backtrack a little bit. Marla was a clumsy gal and everyone predicted she would stay the same. She wasn't well liked because everyone thought she didn't dress, look and act like everyone else did. The Marla I knew also had the worst posture in existence! Seeing her up there, all glamoured up, made my jaw drop. As for how she did, it was a miracle how precise her moves were and how on point she was. She danced ever so elegantly. Wow, I guess people really can change!

Arachne: The Constellation
Long ago in Ancient Greece, there lived a young maiden named Arachne. She was dubbed the mortal reincarnation of the goddess of weaving and crafts, Athena. Athena heard all about her and wanted to assess if she was really that great. Athena disguised herself as an elderly woman and strolled into Arachne's shop. "Why, hello there. You must be Arachne. I've heard great comments about you. Some say you are even more skilled than Athena herself!" laughed Athena. "How dare you compare me to that non-existent goddess. Everyone knows that I could out-weave her any time." boasted Arachne. This made Athena's blood boil and so she challenged Arachne to a weaving contest. Athena was disgusted by what Arachne wove. It was a picture of Athena's father Zeus and her mother, only, she was depicted as a fly. Out of rage, Athena turned Arachne into a spider. Zeus also heard about Arachne's hubris and sent his best men to capture her. Because she was a fly, she out-ran and frightened some of the men. She went into hiding for 2 months before Zeus brought lightning to Earth and struck Arachne, deep down in her dug-out. Zeus retrieved her body and placed it high up in the sky as a constellation. When modern people look up in the sky, they are reminded of Arachne's story and why you should always remain humble and not be excessively prideful.
Dear Child of the Future,
I stretch out from my dugout and gaze at the morning sky, wondering if this war will ever come to an end. To the child reading this, I hope that my work paid off and you are able to live in a world of peace. Ugh, the horrid stench of smoke and burnt flesh occupies the air. I wish I could be home right now, enjoying one of Mom's homemade meals instead of eating a blob of distasteful food. Meanwhile, you are probably reading this, while basking in the sun, surrounded by a fresh aroma, staring at the same sky I also once saw.
There was talk around the base about a new invention engineers were working on. My comrades had said it included instant communication. How did that turn out? Did it ever follow through? Also, will someone please invent a lighter version of the camera?Gosh, that thing weighs like a million pounds and lugging it around is even worse. If I had one, I would take as many pictures as I can to show them to you in the future. It would be better and easier for me to show you instead of using words. I wish I could be there with you unboxing these great inventions.
I received your letter this morning and oh, was it a delight to read! It felt great to know that there is still one person that cares. Although I am the one responsible for my foolish choice, I sometimes regret even writing my name on that sign-up sheet. The media paints us as these brave and audacious men and women, however, we still feel panic when Sergeant commands us to the battlefront. I feel terrible for letting you down after you went through so much trouble pondering about me and writing all your wonderful questions but I think that for what its worth, we should be satisfied about having peace and freedom and not dwell on one of the lowest points of my life. My biggest desire for you is to feel powerful at all times and not be afraid to try new things. All I can say is:
Yes, I was scared. But at the end of the day, I feel accomplished to have learned that I fought for my belief and won.
Sincerely,
A Now Known Soldier
